Summer 2025 Trend Predictions: What's Next in Style and Culture

The fun in fashion is making a comeback! This summer, maximalism takes on a new meaning,  even turning comfort into something bold. While fashion and beauty trends continue to shift rapidly and personal style is more expressive than ever, there are still clear patterns emerging in the media and public response. With major cultural moments like Lorde’s Virgin album release and Beyoncé’s stadium tour, some are saying this summer could even surpass last year's iconic Brat Summer, which won’t be easy to beat.

Let’s dive into a few standout trends defining the summer of '25 and see if this year is shaping up to be even bigger and better.

Matching Sets!

One staple that's been creeping into pop culture is matching sets. Similar to the Juicy tracksuits of the 2000s, monochrome sweat sets have been everywhere. But it's not just about hoodies and sweatpants; any two matching pieces, like mini shorts with a tee or a long skirt with a corset top, fit the trend.

The rise in popularity may be partly due to the influence of Pilates culture. In the media, we often see sets worn as workout outfits or styled by the quintessential “Pilates girl” heading to an Alo gym in LA. This aesthetic gives a casual outfit an elevated, put-together look with minimal effort. Brands like I.AM.GIA, Cherry Knots, and Jaded London have surged in popularity thanks to their matching sets, helping to cement the trend in mainstream fashion.

Vintage Maximalism

As shown at Coachella and the Met Gala, vintage maximalism is back in a big way. ’70s style is everywhere: layered belts, big glasses, flared jeans, and it’s not just about the clothes. It’s about the energy. The 1970s were all about pushing boundaries, embracing self-expression, and challenging norms, and that same spirit is making a powerful return this year.

We're seeing the glamour and freedom of that era come alive again through sequins, bold patterns, and individuality. Androgyny, one of the most revolutionary aspects of ‘70s fashion, is thriving in 2025 thanks to people like Chappell Roan, Bad Bunny, and Lorde; artists who blur gender lines and confidently celebrate fluidity.

In contrast to the minimalist accessories that dominated recent years, we’re now entering a louder, more expressive era. Think chunky bangles, oversized hoops, and statement pieces that demand attention. It's bold, it’s nostalgic, and it’s exactly what fashion needs right now.

We’ve all seen the Jane Birkin effect, and I think it’s here to stay through this summer, but with a twist. Instead of small handbags, we’ll see a rise in larger bags made from soft, slouchy materials. Not only is this shift more practical, but it also amplifies the bold, expressive energy of this season’s trends.

The silhouettes will be less structured but still personalized with playful add-ons like Sonny Angels, Labubus, and an assortment of quirky keychains. Even luxury brands like Prada and Coach are leaning into this trend, offering colorful bag accessories that encourage customization.

What I love most about this look is how easy and fun it is to DIY or thrift. Every secondhand store is filled with unique keychains and bags; it’s such a creative, affordable way to showcase your personality through fashion.

Honey Blonde

Honey blonde is shaping up to be the hair color of the summer. It’s a softer, more wearable alternative to platinum blonde; easier to maintain and perfectly in tune with the warm, golden tones of the ongoing ’70s revival. There’s something about it that feels both effortlessly natural and undeniably luxe.

Celebrities like Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, and Jennifer Lopez have all embraced this rich, undertoned blonde, helping to push it into the spotlight. What makes honey blonde so appealing is its versatility; it works beautifully as subtle highlights or a full-on transformation allowing a less high maintenance but bold look.

Fashion as Expression: Summer 2025's Celebration of Authenticity

With so many different personalities, cultures, and backgrounds shaping the fashion conversation, it feels like trends are slowly taking a backseat, allowing for a deeper embrace of true authenticity in fashion. Rather than viewing trends as something obligatory to fit in, I think they could be seen as reflections of the moment; a way to celebrate the culture and times we’re living in.

Looking ahead, it feels like summer is set out to be a vibrant chapter for media, culture, and the community we've cultivated, especially with all that’s unfolding in the world right now.
